Your internal dialogue immensely influences your performance in any situation. When a narrative is negatively affecting the way you perceive yourself and your ability to produce healthy mindsets, you must disengage from it. There is no need to ask if the story is true; it is only necessary to determine if it serves you. If it is not, then let it go.

Practices to nurture positive self-talk

Each time you think or act optimally, say to yourself – that’s like me! It will reinforce the connection between you and excellence. Celebrate what you want to happen more often.

Remember and relive elevated thoughts and actions to positively build your identity.

Nourish beliefs and sayings that get you in a motivated and productive state of being.

Build a vision guided by ambitious goals that are clearly translated in the process. There is a crucial distinction to be made between daydreaming and productively believing in your power of achievement.

Acknowledge your worth; Treat and talk to yourself like you would your most honoured guest. Don’t speak or do something to yourself that you wouldn’t do to someone else.

Practices to decrease self-sabotage dialogue

Do not let useless and toxic thought loops occupy your mind (blaming, criticizing, complaining) without intervention. You are actively rewiring your mind negatively if you don’t intervene.

Decrease self-criticisms; An augmentation of harshness with yourself results in stronger resistance to go out of your comfort zone. To beat yourself over with a constant rehearsal of your mistakes diminishes your ability to make errors and take on new challenges. Realize that high self-judgement is equal to a decrease of self-trust, resulting in an unwillingness to try and thus risk defeat.

Use your mistakes only to find solutions; once you have established the solution, clear your mind from the error. To repeat what went wrong only shapes your mind in a way that makes it easier for you to repeat the mistake.

Construct your optimal mantra.

Use a mantra to reorient a non-optimal state of mind towards a more serving one for the situation. With repetition, associate the desired emotion to a mantra, so the word(s) or phrase(s) in question make you think and be in a positive state. This will allow you to have the appropriate and useful emotions at hand in crucial times.

From now on, it’s your responsibility to notice toxic thoughts. When they arise, have a pivotal mantra to diffuse from them and let them go. To allow them to occupy your mind is to let negativity and fear control you.
